What is the purpose of a wife?

Bereshith 2:20-24 But for the man there was not found a helper (5828)for him, as his counterpart. 21 So Yahuah Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept. And He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 And the rib which Yahuah Elohim had taken from the man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And the man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one is called ‘woman,’ because she was taken out of man.” 24 For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Strong's #5828

rz[ `ezer (ay'-zer); Noun

  1. help, succour
  2. one who helps

Her purpose is to be a helper and she should be from Yahuah.

Mishle 18:22 He who has found a wife has found tov, And receives kindness from Yahuah.

WHAT TO DO

Be obedient to the Word of Yahuah!

1 Timothy 3:11 11 Wives in the same way: reverent, not false accusers, sober, trustworthy in every way.

Be Capable

Mishle 12:4 A capable wife is the crown of her husband

Mishle 31:10-31 10 Who does find a capable wife? For she is worth far more than rubies. 11 The heart of her husband shall trust her, And he has no lack of gain. 12 She shall do him tov, and not evil, All the days of her life. 13 She shall seek wool and flax, And with delight she works with her hands. 14 She shall be as the ships of Tarshish, She brings in her food from afar. 15 She also rises while it is still night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her girls. 16 She shall consider a field and buy it; From her profits she shall plant a vineyard. 17 She shall gird herself with strength, And strengthen her arms. 18 She shall taste when her gain is tov; Her lamp does not go out by night. 19 She shall stretch out her hands to the distaff, And her hand shall hold the spindle. 20 She shall extend her hand to the poor, And she shall reach out her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is dressed in scarlet. 22 She shall make tapestry for herself; She is dressed in fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She shall make fine linen and sell them, And shall give girdles for the merchants. 25 Strength and splendour are her garments, And she rejoices in time to come. 26 She shall open her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the Torah of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children shall rise up and call her blessed; Her husband too, and he praises her: 29 “Many daughters have done nobly, But you have risen over them all.” 30 Loveliness is deceptive And prettiness is vain, A woman who fears Yahuah is to be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.

Be Understanding

Mishle 19:14 But an understanding wife is from Yahuah.

Fear Yahuah

Mishle 31:30 A woman who fears Yahuah is to be praised.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Do no give advice contrary to the Word of Yahuah!

Bereshith 3:17 And to the man He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘Do not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground because of you, in toil you are to eat of it all the days of your life

Iyob 2:9-10 9 And his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse Elohim and die!” 10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Indeed, should we accept only tov from Elohim, and not accept evil?” In all this Iyob did not sin with his lips.

1 Melakim 11:8-10 8 And so he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and slaughtered to their mighty ones. 9 Therefore Yahuah was enraged with Shelomoh, because his heart had turned away from Yahuah Elohim of Yisra’el, who had appeared to him twice, 10 and had commanded him concerning this word, not to go after other mighty ones. But he did not guard what Yahuah had commanded.

Ester 5:14, 7:10 14 So his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a stake be made, fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak to the sovereign that Mordekai be impaled on it. And go with the sovereign to the feast, rejoicing.” And the word pleased Haman, and he had the stake made. 10 And they impaled Haman on the stake that he had prepared for Mordekai, and the sovereign’s wrath abated.

Do not be disobedient to the Word of Yahuah!

Bereshith 19:16,17, 26 Yahuah having compassion on him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. 17 And it came to be, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be consumed.” 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a post of salt.

Acts 5:7-10 7 And it came to be, about three hours later, that his wife came in, not knowing what had taken place. 8 And Kepha responded to her, “Say to me whether you sold the land for so much?” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 So Kepha said to her, “Why have you agreed to try the Spirit of Yahuah? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out.” 10 And immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, they buried her beside her husband.

1 Melakim 11:3-4 And his wives turned away his heart. 4 And it came to be, when Shelomoh was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other mighty ones.

Do not bring shame

Mishle 12:5 But one causing shame is like rottenness in his bones.

Do not be contentious

Mishle 19:13 And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

Mishle 21:9,19 9 It is better to dwell in a corner of a roof, Than in a house shared with a contentious woman. 19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, Than with a contentious and vexed woman.

Do not be a fool

Mishle 9:13-18 13 A foolish woman is loud, Simple, and without knowledge. 14 For she has seated herself At the door of her house, On a seat by the highest places of the city, 15 To call to those who pass by, Who go straight on their way: 16 “Who is simple? Let him turn in here.” And as for him who lacks heart, she says to him, 17 “Stolen waters are sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” 18 But he does not know that the dead are there, Her guests are in the depths of the grave.

Mishle 14:1 Every wise woman has built her house, But the foolish breaks it down with her hands.

Do Not Withhold Relations

1 Corinthians 7:3-5 3 Let the husband render to his wife what is her due, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another except with agreement for a time, to give yourselves to fasting and prayer. And come together again so that Satan does not try you because of your lack of self-control.

WHOSE IN CHARGE AROUND HERE, ANYWAY?

Bereshith 3:16 And your desire is for your husband, and he does rule over you.”

Ephesians 5:22-24,33b 22 Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Master. 23 Because the husband is head of the wife, as also the Messiah is head of the assembly, and He is Saviour of the body. 24 But as the assembly is subject to Messiah, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in every respect. 33b let the wife see that she fears her husband.

1 Kepha 3:1-6 In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that if any are disobedient to the Word, they, without a word, might be won by the behaviour of their wives, 2 having seen your blameless behaviour in fear. 3 Your adornment should not be outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on dresses – 4 but the hidden Man of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a meek and peaceable spirit, which is of great value before Elohim. 5 For in this way, in former times, the setapart women who trusted in Elohim also adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him master, of whom you became children, doing tov, and not frightened by any fear.

1 Corinthians 7:10, 13-16 10 And to the married I command, not I, but the Master: A wife should not separate from a husband. 13 And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he thinks well to live with her, let her not send him away. 14 For the unbelieving husband has been set-apart in the wife, and the unbelieving wife has been set-apart in the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are set-apart. 15 And, if the unbelieving one separates, let him separate himself. A brother or a sister has not been enslaved in such matters. But Elohim has called us to peace. 16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you shall save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you shall save your wife?

Colossians 3:18 Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as is proper in the Master.

1 Corinthians 11:3-11 3 And I want you to know that the head of every man is the Messiah, and the head of woman is the man, and the head of Messiah is Elohim. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, brings shame to his Head. 5 And every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered brings shame to her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. 6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed should not cover his head, since he is the likeness and esteem of Elohim, but woman is the esteem of man. 8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 For man also was not created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 Because of this the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the messengers. 11 However, man is not independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Master. 12 For as the woman was from the man, even so the man also is through the woman. But all are from Elohim.

Titus 3:3-5 3 the older women likewise are to be setapart in behaviour, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of what is tov, 4 in order for them to train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, blameless, workers at home, tov, subject to their own husbands, in order that the word of Elohim is not evil spoken of.

1 Timothy 2:11-15 11 Let a woman learn in silence, in all subjection. 12 But I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, rather, to be in silence. 13 Because Adam was formed first, then Hawwah. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But she shall be saved in childbearing if they continue in belief, and love, and setapartness, with sensibleness.

Wives who thought they were in charge and what became of them...

VASHTI

Ester 1:10-22 10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the sovereign was glad with wine, he ordered Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Biztha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Karkas, the seven eunuchs who were in attendance in the presence of Sovereign Ahashwerosh, 11 to bring Sovereigness Vashti before the sovereign, with her royal crown, in order to show her loveliness to the people and the officials, for she was lovely to look upon. 12 But Sovereigness Vashti refused to come at the sovereign’s command brought by his eunuchs. And the sovereign was very wroth, and his rage burned within him. 13 So the sovereign said to the wise men who understood the times (for in this way the sovereign’s matter came before all who knew law and right-ruling, 14 and who were close to him: Karshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, Memukan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the sovereign’s face, who sat first in the reign): 15 “According to law, what is to be done to Sovereigness Vashti, because she did not perform the command of Sovereign Ahashwerosh, through the eunuchs?” 16 And Memukan answered before the sovereign and the princes, “Sovereigness Vashti has misbehaved not only toward the sovereign, but also toward all the princes, and all the people who are in all the provinces of Sovereign Ahashwerosh. 17 “For the matter of the sovereigness shall go forth to all women, to make their husbands despised in their eyes, when they say, ‘Sovereign Ahashwerosh commanded Sovereigness Vashti to be brought in before him, but she did not come.’ 18 “And this day the princesses of Persia and Media shall say to all the sovereign’s officials that they have heard of the matter of the sovereigness – with plenty of scorn and wrath. 19 “If it pleases the sovereign, let a royal decree go out from him, and let it be recorded in the laws of the Persians and the Medes, so that it does not pass away, that Vashti shall come no more before Sovereign Ahashwerosh. And let the sovereign give her royal position to another who is better than she. 20 “And the sovereign’s decree which he makes shall be proclaimed throughout all his rule, great as it is, and all the wives give esteem to their husbands, both great and small.” 21 And the word was tov in the eyes of the sovereign and the princes, and the sovereign did according to the word of Memukan. 22 So he sent letters to all the sovereign’s provinces, to each province in its own writing, and to every people in their own language, that each man should be master in his own house and speak in the language of his people.

IZEBEL (JEZEBEL)

1 Melakim 21:7-16 7 So Izebel his wife said to him, “Do you now rule over Yisra'el? Rise up, eat food, and let your heart be glad. Let me give you the vineyard of Naboth the Yizre'elite!” 8 Then she wrote letters in Ahab’s name , and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who were dwelling in the city with Naboth. 9 And she wrote in the letters, saying, “Proclaim a fast, and seat Naboth at the head of the people,10 and seat two men, sons of Beliya'al before him to bear witness against him, saying, ‘You have blasphemed Elohim and the sovereign.’ Then you shall take him out, and stone him to death.” 11 And the men of his city, the elders and nobles who were inhabitants of his city, did as Izebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. 12 They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth at the head of the people. 13 And the men, sons of Beliya'al, came in and sat before him. And the men of Beliya'al witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth has blasphemed Elohim and the sovereign!” So they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, and he died. 14 And they sent to Izebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned and is dead.” 15 And it came to be, when Izebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that Izebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Yizre'elite, which he refused to give you for money, for Naboth is not alive but dead.” 16 And it came to be, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose to go down to take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Yizre'elite.

2 Melakim 9:30-37 And Yehu came to Yizre'el, and Izebel heard of it. And she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and looked through a window. 31 And as Yehu came to the gate, she said, “Is it peace, Zimri, slayer of your master?” 32 And he lifted up his face to the window and said, “Who is with me? Who?” And two, three eunuchs looked down to him. 33 And he said, “Throw her down.” And they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her under foot. 34 And he went in, and he ate and drank, and said, “Go now, see to this cursed one, and bury her, for she was a sovereign’s daughter.” 35 So they went to bury her, but all they found of her was the skull and the feet and the palms of the hands.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

1 Timothy 2:9-11 9 Likewise, that the women dress themselves becomingly, with decency and sensibleness, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but with tov works, which is becoming for women undertaking worship of Elohim. 11 Wives in the same way: reverent, not false accusers, sober, trustworthy in every way.

1 Kepha 3:3-5 3 Your adornment should not be outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on dresses – 4 but the hidden Man of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a meek and peaceable spirit, which is of great value before Elohim. 5 For in this way, in former times, the setapart women who trusted in Elohim also adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands.

Luke 1:5-6 And his wife was of the daughters of Aharon, and her name was Elisheba. 6 And they were both righteous before Elohim, blamelessly walking in all the commands and righteousnesses of Yahuah.

Ester

Ester 2:15-17 15 And when the turn came for Ester, the daughter of Abihayil the uncle of Mordekai, who had taken her as his daughter, to come in to the sovereign, she sought no matter but what Hegai the sovereign’s eunuch, guardian of the women, advised. And Ester found kindness in the eyes of all who saw her. 16 And Ester was taken to Sovereign Ahashwerosh, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. 17 And the sovereign loved Ester more than all the women, and she found compassion and kindness in his eyes more than all the maidens. And he set the royal crown upon her head and made her sovereigness instead of Vashti.

MIKAL

2 Shemu'el 6:14-23 14 And Dawid danced before Yahuah with all his might. And Dawid was wearing a linen shoulder garment. 15 Thus Dawid and all the house of Yisra’el brought up the ark of Yahuah with shouting and with the sound of the ram’s horn. 16 And it came to be, when the ark of Yahuah came into the City of Dawid, that Mikal, daughter of Sha’ul, looked through a window and saw Sovereign Dawid leaping and dancing before Yahuah, and she despised him in her heart. 17 So they brought the ark of Yahuah in, and set it in its place in the midst of the Tent that Dawid had pitched for it. And Dawid brought burnt offerings before Yahuah, and peace offerings. 18 And when Dawid had finished bringing burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the Name of Yahuah of hosts. 19 And he apportioned to all the people, to all the crowd of Yisra’el, from man even to women, to each one a loaf of bread, and a measure, and a cake of raisins. And all the people left, each one to his house. 20 And Dawid returned to bless his household, and Mikal the daughter of Sha’ul came out to meet Dawid, and said, “How esteemed was the sovereign of Yisra’el today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the female servants of his servants, as one of the foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself!” 21 So Dawid said to Mikal, “Before Yahuah, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of Yahuah, over Yisra’el, so I danced before Yahuah. 22 “And I shall be even more slight than this, and shall be humble in my own eyes. But as for the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I am esteemed.” 23 And Mikal the daughter of Sha’ul had no children to the day of her death.

Mikal raised the children of her sister as her own and these sons were hung on hill before Yahuah.

2 Shemu'el 21:8-9 8 And the sovereign took the two sons of Ritspah the daughter of Ayah, whom she bore to Sha’ul: Armoni and the other Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Mikal the daughter of Sha’ul, whom she brought up for Adri’el the son of Barzillai, the Meholathite, 9 and gave them into the hands of the GibÈonites, and they hanged them on the hill before Yahuah. So the seven fell together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

Love and Obedience

Sarah

Bereshith 18:5-6 5 “And let me bring a piece of bread and refresh your hearts, and then go on, for this is why you have come to your servant.” And they said, “Do as you have said.” 6 So Abraham ran into the tent to Sarah and said, “Hurry, make ready three measures of fine flour, knead it and make cakes.” Notice she did not argue with him she did as she was told.

1 Kepha 3:5-6 5 For in this way, in former times, the setapart women who trusted in Elohim also adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him master(2962), of whom you became children, doing tov, and not frightened by any fear.

Strong's # 2962

kuvrioß Kurios (koo'-ree-os)

  1. he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, 'lord'
    1. the possessor and disposer of a thing
      • the owner; one who has control of the person, the master
      • in the state: the sovereign, prince, chief, the Roman emperor
    2. is a title of honour expressive of respect and reverence, with which servants greet their master

Bereshith 18:12 12 And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my master (113) being old too?”

Strong #: 113

!wda 'adown (aw-done')

  1. firm, strong, lord, master
  2. lord, master

Yes, she called him master. Can you imagine the roar of the feminist if one heard a set-apart wife refer to her husband as master? Let us remember that there were only two women mentioned in Ibrim chapter 11, one of which was Sarah.

Ibrim 11:1-3,11 And belief is the substance of what is expected, the proof of what is not seen. 2 For by this the elders obtained witness. 3 By belief, we understand that the ages were prepared by the word of Elohim, so that what is seen was not made of what is visible. 11 By belief also, Sarah herself was enabled to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the normal age, because she deemed Him trustworthy who had promised.

Treachery and Treason

Delilah

18 And Delilah saw that he had made known to her all his heart, and she sent and called for the princes of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once more, for he has made known to me all his heart.” So the princes of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand. 19 And she made him sleep on her knees, and called for a man and shaved off the seven locks of his head. Thus she began to humble him, and his strength left him. 20 And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Shimshon!” And he awoke from his sleep, and said, “Let me go out as before, at other times, and shake myself loose!” But he did not know that Yahuah had turned aside from him. 21 So the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Azzah, and bound him with bronze shackles. And he became a grinder in the prison.

Zeresh

Ester 5:14 14 So his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a stake be made, fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak to the sovereign that Mordekai be impaled on it. And go with the sovereign to the feast, rejoicing.” And the word pleased Haman, and he had the stake made.

Herodias

Mark 6:17-19, 21-24 17 For Herodes himself had sent and seized Yahuchanan, and bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her, 18 for Yahuchanan had said to Herodes, “It is not right for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19 So Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to kill him. 21 And a suitable day came when Herodes on his birthday gave a feast for his great men, and the high officers, and the chief men of Galil. 22 And when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, and pleased Herodes and those who sat with him, the sovereign said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you wish, and I shall give it to you.” 23 And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I shall give you, up to half of my reign.” 24 And she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “The head of Yahuchanan the Immerser!”
Titus 2:3-5 3 the older women likewise are to be setapart in behaviour, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of what is tov, 4 in order for them to train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, blameless, workers at home, tov, subject to their own husbands, in order that the word of Elohim is not evil spoken of.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

SHOULD WOMEN WEAR TZITZITS?

Bemidbar 15:37-41 37 And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying, 38 “Speak to the children (1121) of Yisra’el, and you shall say to them to make tzitziyot on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue cord in the tzitzit of the corners. 39 “And it shall be to you for a tzitzit, and you shall see it, and shall remember all the commands of Yahuah and shall do them, and not search after your own heart and your own eyes after which you went whoring, 40 so that you remember, and shall do all My commands, and be set-apart unto your Elohim. 41 “I am Yahuah your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your Elohim. I am Yahuah your Elohim.”

Strong's # 1121

!b Ben (bane); Noun

  1. son, grandson, child, member of a group
  2. son, male child
  3. grandson
  4. children (pl. - male and female)
  5. youth, young men (pl.)
  6. young (of animals)
  7. people (of a nation) (pl.)

Debarim 22:12 12“Make tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself.

As we are the children of Yisra'el, it does appear that we should wear tzitzits also. It has been said that we women cannot wear tzitzits because we don't wear four corners when we wear our dresses. To that, I can only say:

YeshaYahu 11:12 12 And He shall raise a banner for the nations, and gather the outcasts of Yisra’el, and assemble the dispersed of Yehudah from the four corners of the earth.

Revalation 7:1 And after this I saw four messengers standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

Revalation 20:8 8 and he shall go out to lead the nations astray which are in the four corners of the earth,

The point is the earth is round, it does not actually have corners. Personally, I have chosen to wear tzitzits, because I consider myself to be a b'nai Yisra'el (child of Yisra'el).

SHOULD WOMEN BRAID THEIR HAIR?

1 Timothy 2:9 Likewise, that the women dress themselves becomingly, with decency and sensibleness, not with braided (4117) hair or gold or pearls or costly garments

Strong's # 4117

plevgma Plegma (pleg'-mah); Noun from 4120

  1. plait of hair
  2. broidered hair

This word is used only one time in Scripture. But why, I asked myself would Brother Sha'ul tell us we should not braid our hair? Did he mean by braiding it with ribbons, or gold, or pearls in it thereby bringing undue attention to ourselves? If we are to pray with our heads covered then why would it make a difference if our hair was braided or not? I decided to dig a little deeper. Since the Strong's indicates that #4117 comes from #4120 I checked it out.

Strong's #4120

plevkw Pleko (plek'-o); Verb

  1. to plait, braid, weave together

The Webster's dictionary defines braid and plait two ways, as nouns and as verbs:

braid (n)

  1. string, cord, band, or plait, formed by weaving together different strands of any material
  2. Strip of braided hair.

braid (v)
  1. move to and fro, to weave, braid. To interweave three or more strands of hair.

plait (n)

  1. braid of hair, ribbon, etc.

plait (v)
  1. to pleat
  2. to braid
  3. to make by braiding

The word #4120 is used three times in Scripture.

MattithYahu 27:29 And plaiting (4120) a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they kneeled down before Him and mocked Him, saying "Greetings, Sovereign of the Yehudim!"

Mark 15:17 and decked Him with purple. And they plaited (4120) a crown of thorns, put it on Him,

Yahuchanon 19:2 And the soldiers plaited (4120) a crown of thorns and placed it on His head, and they put a purple robe on Him, and came to Him and said, "Greetings, Sovereign of the Yehudim!" And they slapped Him in the face.

It appears to me that there is something much deeper in Brother Sha'ul's admonishment not to braid our hair. We know that the Torah is spirit (Romans 7:14a For we know that the Torah is Spiritual), so what is the spiritual meaning behind braiding our hair? Could it be referencing a plaited (braided) crown of thorns on the head of our Redeemer and Deliverer? Personally, I'm making the choice not to braid or plait my hair.

SHOULD WOMEN WEAR HEADCOVERINGS?

1 Corinthians 11:5-13 5 And every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered brings shame to her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. 13 Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to Elohim with her head uncovered?

While it is true there is no direct command in Torah for a woman to have a head covering on, let us see what is implied. First we know we are to pray without ceasing,(1 Thessalonians 5:17 17 pray without ceasing) some could debate exactly what prayer is, constant communication with Yahuah? Doing all things as if you were doing them for Yahuah?, or specific time in prayer. Perhaps this witness from Torah is all we need:

Bemidbar 5:11-31 11 And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying, 12 “Speak to the children of Yisra’el, and say to them, ‘When any man’s wife turns aside and has committed a trespass against him, 13 and a man has intercourse with her, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and it is concealed that she has defiled herself, and there was no witness against her, nor was she caught, 14 and a spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife who has defiled herself, or a spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife although she has not defiled herself, 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. And he shall bring the offering for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley flour. He is not to pour oil on it or put frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing crookedness to remembrance. 16 ‘And the priest shall bring her near, and shall make her stand before Yahuah. 17 ‘And the priest shall take set-apart water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the Dwelling Place and put it into the water. 18 ‘ And the priest shall make the woman stand before Yahuah, and shall uncover the woman’s head, (She is standing under her own authority here, she came out from underneath her husband's authority) and put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy, while the priest holds in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 ‘And the priest shall make her swear, and say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned aside to uncleanness under your husband’s authority, be free from this bitter water that brings a curse. 20 “But if you have turned aside under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has lain with you” – 21 then the priest shall make the woman swear with the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman – “Yahuah make you a curse and an oath among your people, when Yahuah makes your thigh waste away and your belly swell, 22 and this water that causes the curse shall go into your inward parts, and make your belly swell and your thigh waste away.” And the woman shall say, “Amen, amen.” 23 ‘And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and shall wipe them off into the bitter water, 24 and shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter her to become bitter. 25 ‘And the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, and shall wave the offering before Yahuah, and bring it to the altar. 26 ‘And the priest shall take a hand filled with the offering, as its remembrance offering, and burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water. 27 ‘And when he has made her drink the water, then it shall be, if she has defiled herself and has committed a trespass against her husband, that the water that brings the curse shall enter her and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall waste away, and the woman shall become a curse among her people. 28 ‘But if the woman has not defiled herself, and is clean, then she shall be clear and shall conceive children. 29 ‘This is the Torah of jealousy, when a wife turns aside under her husband’s authority and defiles herself, 30 or when a spirit of jealousy comes upon a man, and he becomes jealous of his wife. Then he shall make the woman stand before Yahuah, and the priest shall do to her all this Torah. 31 ‘And the man shall be clear from crookedness, but the woman bear her crookedness.’ ”

Obviously from this witness in Torah, women wore headcoverings. If it wasn't part of daily attire, she wouldn't have had to remove it.

Shir haShirim 4:1-2 See, you are fair, my love! See, you are fair! Your eyes are as doves behind your veil.

Shir haShirim 5:7 7 The watchmen who went about the city found me. They struck me, they bruised me; The keepers of the walls lifted my veil from me.

Bereshith 24:65 65 and she had said to the servant, “Who is this man walking in the field to meet us?” And the servant said, “It is my master.” So she took a veil and covered herself.

YeshaYahu 3:13-26 16 And Yahuah says, “Because the daughters of Tsiyon are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and seductive eyes, walking and mincing as they go, making a jingling with their feet, 17 therefore Yahuah shall smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Tsiyon, and Yahuah expose their nakedness.” 18 In that day Yahuah takes away the finery of the anklets, and the headbands, and the crescents, 19 the pendants, the bracelets and the veils, 20 the headdresses, and the leg ornaments, and the sashes, and the perfume bottles, and the amulets, 21 the rings, and the nose jewels, 22 the costly robes, and the cloaks, and the shawls, and the purses, 23 the mirrors, and the fine linen, and the turbans, and the large veils. 24 And it shall be: Instead of a sweet fragrance, a smell of decay; and instead of a belt, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a festal robe, a girding of sackcloth; and branding instead of loveliness. 25 Your men shall fall by the sword, and your strength in battle. 26 And her gates shall lament and mourn, and she, deserted, shall sit on the ground. So it is a punishment from Yahuah to have the veils taken away?

YeshaYahu 47:1-3 “Come down and sit in the dust, O maiden daughter of Babel. Sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans! For no more do they call you tender and delicate. 2 “Take the millstones and grind flour. Remove your veil, lift up the skirt, uncover the leg, pass through rivers. 3 “Let your nakedness be uncovered, let your shame also be exposed. I take vengeance, and meet no man.” If lifting up the skirt and uncovering the leg equates to nakedness, then it would seem that removal of the veil equates to shame

Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to Elohim with her head uncovered?

Who are you that judges another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. But he shall be made to stand, for Elohim is able to make him stand.
