pot-roast recipes

Postby Torahwoman » 27 Feb 2008, 21:46

Shalom !

here's a recipe from sister Vicky in New York,
which she made while i was visiting during sukkoth '05.
It's delicious and easy! Afterward, i'll give a variation of it,
that i put together to try.

Sweet & Savoury Pot Roast

3-5 lb. pot roast -- seared
1 teasp. garlic powder (or a garlic clove)
1/2 teasp. fresh ground pepper
1 jar onions -- optional
1 16-oz. can of jellied cranberry sauce
1 14-oz. can of beef broth
1 can French onion soup
1 pkg. onion soup mix (Lipton or other)

Put all ingredients in crockpot on low all day.
When meat is done, take it out and make gravy with liquid
and put meat back in.

----------

i've made it myself at least once, since she gave me the recipe
and the meal came out also very tasty!

Today, i didn't have all the ingredients,
so i just put the following in a crockpot :

boneless shoulder blade steak
jar of beef gravy
about 1/4 c. water to rinse gravy jar out
1 envelope/pkg. onion soup mix
1 can jellied cranberry sauce
1 can of water (using cranb. sauce can)
garlic powder, black pepper to taste

several potatoes, peeled, cut to desired size
optional -- 1 sweet red pepper, quartered, seeds removed

i put my crockpot on high all day (i have an older model),
since i was here to keep an eye on it.
When meat was nearly done ( cooked through
but not quite tender enough), i put in the red pepper pieces
and the potatoes, and let that continue to cook until potatoes are done
-- this will give the meat more time to tenderize, too.

--------
Praise Yahuah for the invention of the slowcooker! :D
