Is the Sabbath Only 12 Hours?

Postby Watchman555 » 05 Mar 2015, 21:26

Is the Sabbath 12 hours only or the whole circuit ("24-hour" day)?

This is from a whole circuit persuasion, morning to morning.

It was said,

"Yahuah has no communion with darkness except when He commanded which is Passover."

In a spiritual sense, yes, but how many times has Yahuah visited in the night?

Psa 17:3 You have examined my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me – You find I have not schemed; My mouth would not transgress.

Dan 7:13 “I was looking in the night visions and saw One like the Son of Enosh, coming with the clouds of the heavens! And He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.

Act 18:9 And the Master spoke to Sha’ul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not be silent,
Act 18:10 because I am with you, and no one shall attack you to do you evil, because I have much people in this city.”

Remember also:

Psa 139:9 I take the wings of the morning, I dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Psa 139:10 There, too, Your hand would lead me, And Your right hand hold me.
Psa 139:11 If I say, “Darkness shall cover me,” Then night would be light to me;
Psa 139:12 Even darkness is not dark for You, But night shines as the day – As is darkness, so is light.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth came to be1 formless and empty, and darkness was on the face of the deep. And >>the Spirit of Elohim was moving on the face of the waters.<<

Was it dark?

Evil works are likened to darkness and night but we must be true to context. And we must take into context that the darkness that is referred to as night is not evil as the previous verses suggest.

There is scripture that suggest that the Sabbath also includes the night...

Gen 1:31 And Elohim SAW ALL that He had made, and see, it was VERY GOOD. And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the sixth day.

Consider:

Was darkness/night part of what Elohim saw?
Was it very good?
Did the 6th day end at even
Did it end at the 7th day morning?
Did evening come after He ended His work?
Is this not the natural occurence of a work day?

Ecc 11:6 Sow your seed in the morning, and until evening do not let your hand rest; since you do not know which prosper, this or that, or whether both alike are good.

Psa 104:23 Man goes out to his work, And to his labour, till evening.
Jdg 19:16 But see, an old man came in from his work in the field at evening,

Even the parable of the eleventh hour worker:

Mat 20:1 “For the reign of the heavens is like a man, a householder who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.

Mat 20:6 “And about the eleventh hour, having gone out, he found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’
Mat 20:7 “They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you shall receive.’
Mat 20:8 “And when evening came, the master of the vineyard said to his manager, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’
Mat 20:9 “And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a silver piece.
Mat 20:10 “And when the first came, they thought they would receive more. But they too received each a silver piece.
Mat 20:11 “And when they received it, they grumbled against the householder,
Mat 20:12 saying, ‘These last have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’

Very important to consider here. Is it mandatory that our work must cease at evening?

Yahusha said,

Joh 11:9 Yahusha answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

Again, we have to go back to context. Yahusha is speaking of the twelve hours of the day that are measured by the sun in the sky. But the word 'day' is not limited to only twelve hours..

H3117

יוֹם

yôm

yome

From an unused root meaning to be hot; a day (as the warm hours), whether literally (from sunrise to sunset, OR>>> from one sunset to the next), or figuratively (A SPACE OF TIME DEFINED BY AN ASSOCIATED TERM), (often used adverbially): - age, + always, + chronicles, continually (-ance), daily, ([birth-], each, to) day, (now a, two) days (agone), + elder, X end, + evening, + (for) ever (-lasting, -more), X full, life, as (so) long as (. . . live), (even) now, + old, + outlived, + perpetually, presently, + remaineth, X required, season, X since, space, then, (process of) time, + as at other times, + in trouble, weather, (as) when, (a, the, within a) while (that), X whole (+ age), (full) year (-ly), + younger.

In our understanding- (from sunrise to sunset, OR >>> from one morning to the next)

Example:

Gen 1:3 And Elohim said, “Let light come to be,” and light came to be.
Gen 1:4 And Elohim saw the light, that it was good. And Elohim separated the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 And Elohim called the light ‘day’ and the darkness He called ‘night.’ And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, THE FIRST DAY.

So we can see that all the way up to "there came to be morning" was considered the first day.

Exo 20:9 “Six days you labour, and shall do all your work,

This is very important to consider if our reasoning is that the Sabbath is only the 12 hours. In other words, if we make firm the Sabbath is only to be observed for 12 hours, than that should also apply to the work day as well.

Consider:

Num 19:11 ‘He who touches the dead of any human being is unclean for seven days.

The strictest definition of the word 'day' is found in Gen 1:5 - "And Elohim called the light ‘day’"

But the context of the word 'days' in Num 19:11 includes the nights. Otherwise, one would have to claim they are only unclean during the day light hours. Is that proper context?

Therefore, when Yahusha said:

Joh 11:9 Yahusha answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
Joh 11:10 “But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

We need to look at the associated terms: "hours", "walks in the day" and "walks in the night" then clearly we can see the context shows us the strictest definition of the word day = light.

( - "And Elohim called the light ‘day’" - "are there not 12 hours in the day" )

When someone says, “Yahusha said,” we need to remember context because if we only apply the strictest definition to the word 'day' (12 hours only) we will run into problems which we will discuss later.

Continuing on to the Seventh day.

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their array.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day Elohim completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
Gen 2:3 And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it He rested from all His work which Elohim in creating had made.

Notice it does not say, “He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made then came evening"? Why not? Why do we see the 6 work days followed by "then came evening then came morning" but "then came evening" is not mentioned on the Sabbath?

Notice it does not say “And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it He rested from all His work which Elohim in creating had made, then came evening”?

Remember the 6 work days were followed by "then came evening" because man “goes out to his work, And to his labor, till evening.”

Elohim set this example with His work...

The scripture does NOT read:

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their array.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day Elohim completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
Gen 2:3 And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it He rested from all His work which Elohim in creating had made. >>AND THERE CAME TO BE EVENING AND THERE CAME TO BE MORNING, THE SEVENTH DAY.<<

Did the seventh day end? Of course it did.
When? At the beginning of the first day --> obviously.
When does the first day begin? In the morning.
How can the Sabbath end at evening??
What would the time period between the evening and the first day morning be called?
Does it belong to the first day? That would make the first day one and a half days long...
Or the seventh day?

If it belongs to the seventh day I would be reminded that the Sabbath is the seventh day and would end as the first day begins as we shall see shortly.

So maybe Elohim's Rest DID NOT end at evening like all His work work did Otherwise it would read,

>>AND THERE CAME TO BE EVENING AND THERE CAME TO BE MORNING, THE SEVENTH DAY.<<

Think of it this way, how can work commence when the evening of the 7th day comes? The 1st day does not begin until the next morning, so the evening and night belong to the 7th day...

Exo 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart.
Exo 20:9 “Six days you labor, and shall do all your work,
Exo 20:10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath of Yahuah your Elohim. You do not do any work...

The Sabbath is the 7th day, and the 7th day can not end until the first day begins...

Scripture shows us when the Sabbath begins,

Exo 16:22 And it came to be, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Mosheh.
Exo 16:23 And he said to them, “This is what Yahuah has said, ‘Tomorrow is a rest, a Sabbath set-apart to Yahuah. That which you bake, bake; and that which you cook, cook. And lay up for yourselves all that is left over, to keep it until morning.’ ”
Exo 16:24 And they laid it up till morning, as Mosheh commanded. And it did not stink, and no worm was in it.
Exo 16:25 And Mosheh said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahuah, today you do not find it in the field.

Mosheh declared the Sabbath on the morning of the 1st day.

Exo 16:26 “Gather it six days, but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, there is none.”

ON the seventh day there is none. Is that talking about the day light portion only? Or the whole circuit of the day reaching to the morning of the 1st day when the manna would fall again?

Exo 16:27 And it came to be that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none.
Exo 16:28 And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “How long shall you refuse to guard My commands and My Torot?
Exo 16:29 “See, because Yahuah has given you the Sabbath, therefore He is giving you >>bread for two days<< on the sixth day. Let each one stay in his place, do not let anyone go out of his place on the seventh day.”
Exo 16:30 So the people rested on the seventh day

A couple of things to consider:

No mention of "then came evening"
Bread for 2 days, does the context of days include both day and night?

Scripture shows us when the Sabbath ends.

Mat 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Let's break it down:

Mat 28:1 In the end (G3796)

Mat 28:1 IN THE END of the Sabbath, as it BEGAN TO GROW LIGHT INTO the first day of the week...

Seems very clear to me that the "Sabbath" ended as the 1st day of the week began.

Luk 23:56 And having returned, they prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the command.

It would seem they understood the command to mean the Sabbath would end as the first day began. If the Sabbath ended at evening you have to wonder why they would wait until morning. But all the accounts show they waited until morning to go to the tomb.

Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man who shall not walk in the counsel of the wrong, And shall not stand in the path of sinners, And shall not sit in the seat of scoffers,
Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the Torah of Yahuah, And he meditates in His Torah DAY and NIGHT.

(By the way, i'm not applying Psa 1:1 to those who only observe Sabbath for the 12 hours of the day.)

Leaving Mitsrayim

I know that there are some who claim that the sabbath is only 12-hours because israel came out of Mitsrayim at night.

The Scriptures specifically say that they left Rameses on the 15th day. Now, if someone is using the strict definition of "day" then we have to take that at face value and believe they came out of Rameses during the day - are there not 12 hours to a day?

But yet, the Scriptures say they came out of Mitsrayim at night.

These two thoughts are diametrically opposed - how could they leave during the day, which means light, and come out at night - which means darkness.

The answer might lie in the fact that leaving Mitsrayim took place in two parts. The first part is when they left Rameses during the 15th day, the book of Jasher specifically says that Pharaoh went to them at night requesting them to leave and they told him that they would not leave like thieves in the night. They left on the next day, which was the 15th >>day<< of the month.

Yashar Chapter 80

58 And Pharaoh ordered the children of Israel to be sent away, and all the Egyptians strengthened themselves to send them, for they said, We are all perishing.
59 And all the Egyptians sent the Israelites forth, with great riches, sheep and oxen and precious things, according to the oath of Yahuah between him and our Father Abraham.
60 AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL DELAYED GOING FORTH AT NIGHT, and when the Egyptians came to them to bring them out, they said to them, ARE WE THIEVES, THAT WE SHOULD GO FORTH AT NIGHT?
61 And the children of Israel asked of the Egyptians, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and the children of Israel stripped the Egyptians.
62 And Moses hastened and rose up and went to the river of Egypt, and brought up from thence the coffin of Joseph and took it with him.
63 The children of Israel also brought up, each man his father's coffin with him, and each man the coffins of his tribe.

CHAPTER 81

1 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides the little ones and their wives.
2 Also a mixed multitude went up with them, and flocks and herds, even much cattle.
3 And the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in the land of Egypt in hard labor, was two hundred and ten years.
4 And at the end of two hundred and ten years, Yahuah brought forth the children of Israel from Egypt with a strong hand.
5 And the children of Israel TRAVELED FROM EGYPT AND FROM GOSHEN AND FROM RAMESES, AND ENCAMPED IN SUCCOTH ON THE FIFTEENTH DAY OF THE FIRST MONTH.
Exo 12:11 ‘And this is how you eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall EAT IT IN HASTE. It is the Passover of Yahuah.

Exo 12:22 “And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin, and you, NONE OF YOU SHALL GO OUT OF THE DOOR OF HIS HOUSE UNTIL MORNING.

Clearly we can see that the children of Yasharel did not leave the night of the 14th. And 'eat in haste' would suggest that their departure would be soon after they went out the doors of their houses. Scripture says they departed Ramses ON the 15th. The 15th would have been the 7th day.

Scripture also says:

Exo 12:33 And the Mitsrites urged the people, to >hasten to send them away< out of the land. For they said, “We are all dying!”
Exo 12:34 And the people took their dough before it was leavened, having their kneading bowls bound up in their garments on their shoulders.
Exo 12:35 And the children of Yisra’ĕl had done according to the word of Mosheh, and they had asked from the Mitsrites objects of silver, and objects of gold, and garments.
Exo 12:36 And Yahuah gave the people favour in the eyes of the Mitsrites, so that they gave them what they asked, and they plundered the Mitsrites.
Exo 12:37 And the children of Yisra’ĕl set out from Raʽmeses to Sukkoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides the little ones.
Exo 12:38 And a mixed multitude went up with them too, also flocks and herds, very much livestock.
Exo 12:39 And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of Mitsrayim, for it was not leavened, since >>they were driven out of Mitsrayim, and had not been able to delay,<< nor had they prepared food for themselves.

“Not able to delay” yet they waited until evening??? And what happens at evening? The light starts to go away?

Yet:

Exo 12:51 And it came to be on that >>same day<< that Yahuah brought the children of Yisra’ĕl out of the land of Mitsrayim according to their divisions.

If they came out at night then that night had to belong to the 7th day...

Again, many have claimed that Elohim wouldn't bring them have them travelling on the Sabbath, but is this true?

Luk 13:15 Then the Master answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loosen his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?

There are many, many Scriptures that refer to Israel as being under the yoke and under the burden, much like an ox. Israel was released from their burdens and delivered on the 15th - that's why it is referred to as a high Sabbath. That is why it is still commemorated as a rest day but yet they travelled on that day. Is it right to do good on the Sabbath day? Of course it is. If anyone of us found animals or humans who were unjustly being detained on the Sabbath day we would surely release them from their bondage and lead them to water.

Which is the whole spirit behind leaving Mitsrayim on the 15th. This directly corresponds with what Yahusha said in Luke 13:15. Did they reach the water on the same day? No, but it is quite possible that they were at the waters edge on the 22nd day of the month; which would be the second part, when they left the physical land of Mitsrayim. When we read the account:

Exo 14:21 And Mosheh stretched out his hand over the sea. And Yahuah caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.
Exo 14:22 And the children of Yisra’ĕl went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right and on their left.
Exo 14:23 And the Mitsrites pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.
Exo 14:24 And it came to be, in the morning watch, that Yahuah looked down upon the army of the Mitsrites through the column of fire and cloud, and He brought the army of the Mitsrites into confusion.

I would contend that this is what Deut 16:1 is speaking of when it says they were delivered by night. This account tells us they went through the sea that night - that is when they left the land of Mitsrayim because Mitsrayim boarders on the sea. They were delivered that night and in the morning they no longer saw Pharaoh pursuing them.

Deu 16:1 “Guard the month of Aḇiḇ, and perform the Passover to Yahuah your Elohim, for in the month of Abib Yahuah your Elohim brought you out of Mitsrayim by night.

See how it says "guard the MONTH of Abib"? This is not just speaking of the Passover, or the 15th - we are to guard the whole month because of all the activities that take place; starting with "this is the beginning of months for you" - that is the first thing we are to guard. Then on the 10th we are to choose a lamb, the 14th is the Passover, the 15th is ULB, and we guard the whole week of ULB and we even guard the understanding of the children of Israel being delivered from the hand of Pharaoh. This whole monthly feast cycle brings about the plan of redemption.

Again, we can see using the Scriptures that they left Rameses on the 15th day, day equals light. Did they leave Mitsrayim? Yes and no.

Exo 12:37 And the children of Yisra’ĕl set out from Raʽmeses to Sukkoth,

Was Sukkoth in the land of Mitsrayim? Yes...

Num 33:5 Then the children of Yisra’ĕl departed from Raʽmeses and camped at Sukkoth.
Num 33:6 And they departed from Sukkoth and camped at Ětham, which is on the edge of the wilderness.

We can see they left the land of Mitsrayim during the night. Also to say that Yahuah wouldn't allow the children of Israel to travel on the sabbath day, meaning they waited until night, is not Scriptural. It is perfectly lawful to do good on the Sabbath day; whether it would be leading your ox to water, pulling him out of a ditch, or delivering the children of Israel from bondage.

Num 33:3 So they departed from Raʽmeses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month, on the morrow of the Passover the children of Yisra’ĕl went out with boldness before the eyes of all the Mitsrites,

They went out with boldness before the eyes of the Mitsrites. Does that not suggest that it was day? And if they wouldn't leave like thieves in the night on the 14th than why would they do so on the 15th?

Num 33:4 and the Mitsrites were burying all their first-born, whom Yahuah had smitten among them. Also on their mighty ones Yahuah had executed judgments.

And why would they wait till night to bury their dead? Maybe the Exodos was in 2 parts. Just like the spiritual exodus when we are delivered from pharaoh/satan upon Yahusha's return and he is put in the pit. But what happens at the end of the 1000 years? Satan is let loose where he,

Rev 20:7 And when the thousand years have ended, Satan shall be released from his prison,
Rev 20:8 and he shall go out to lead the nations astray which are in the four corners of the earth, Goḡ and Maḡoḡ, to gather them together for battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.
Rev 20:9 And they came up over the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the set-apart ones and the beloved city. And fire came down from Elohim out of the heaven and consumed them.

This will play out much like the first exodus, 2 part series...

But even if one rejects that line of understanding there is absolutely no reason to assume that if the children of Yasharel waited until night to leave Ramses that it means the Sabbath is concluded at evening.

At that time they had not been given the command of the Sabbath.

Rom 4:15 for the Torah works out wrath, for where there is no Torah there is no transgression.

This is exactly why the 15th is a “high” Sabbath...

Exo 12:17 ‘And you shall guard the Festival of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I brought your divisions out of the land of Mitsrayim. And you shall guard this day throughout your generations, an everlasting law.

He delivered them from the bondage of the yoke on that day.

Luk 13:15 Then the Master answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loosen his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?

An ox is a beast of burden?

Mat 12:11 And He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, shall not take hold of it and lift it out?
Mat 12:12 “How much more worth is a man than a sheep! So it is right to do good on the Sabbath.”

How can we be so dogmatic about the “LAW” and not understand the Sabbath is about release? Look at all the healings Yahusha performed on the Sabbath, and who had a problem with that? If one would maintain Elohim would not deliver His people on a Sabbath than you might want to consider when He will return... ON the 7th day millenium?

Hos 6:1 ‘Come, and let us turn back to Yahuah. For He has torn but He does heal us, He has stricken but He binds us up.
Hos 6:2 ‘After two days He shall revive us, on the third day He shall raise us up, so that we live before Him.
Hos 6:3 ‘So let us know, let us pursue to know Yahuah. His going forth is as certain as the morning. And He comes to us like the rain, like the latter rain watering the earth.’

After 2 millennial days is the beginning of the THIRD day which is equivelent to the 7th millennial day. HIS going forth is as certain as the MORNING... Morning of the 7th day... Just like the Impalement, ON the third day He rose and went forth in the morning...

And speaking of the 7th millennium that i'm sure we considder as THE REST we have all been looking forward to - If a 1000 years is as a day, does that not suggest that the day is speaking of a day comprised of both night and day? 7000 years = 7 days and nights? If that be the case, how long will the millennial sabbath last? 500 years?

And what about the 7th year land rest?

In comparison the land rest is almost identical to the rest given to man...

Lev 25:2 “Speak to the children of Yisra’el, and say to them, ‘When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall observe a Sabbath to Yahuah.
Lev 25:3 ‘Six years you sow your field, and six years you prune your vineyard, and gather in its fruit,

Remember what we talked about earlier? If we claim the Sabbath is only the daylight hours than we should also apply that reasoning to the work days? What about the year? Summer and winter is the equivalent to day and night? So the question comes - Do we only sow and reap the fields for the first half of the year?

Lev 25:4 but in the seventh year the land is to have a Sabbath of rest, a Sabbath to Yahuah. Do not sow your field and do not prune your vineyard.

And what about the 7th year? Do we only let it rest for the summer/day? If we start to sow or reap in the 7th year are we not violating the command:

Lev 25:3 ‘Six years you sow your field, and six years you prune your vineyard, and gather in its fruit,

???? So what is the difference?

Exo 20:9 “Six days you labor, and shall do all your work,

A year is one complete circuit from 'morning to morning' as is the month or the day...

Lev 25:8 ‘And you shall count seven Sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years. And the time of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years.
Lev 25:9 ‘You shall then sound a ram’s horn to pass through on the tenth day of the seventh month, on the Day of Atonement cause a ram’s horn to pass through all your land.
Lev 25:10 ‘And you shall set the fiftieth year apart, and proclaim release throughout all the land to all its inhabitants, it is a Jubilee for you. And each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you return to his clan.
Lev 25:11 ‘The fiftieth year is a Jubilee to you. Do not sow, nor reap what grows of its own, nor gather from its unpruned vine.
Lev 25:12 ‘It is a Jubilee, it is set-apart to you. Eat from the field its crops.
Lev 25:13 ‘In the Year of this Jubilee let each one of you return to his possession.

Let me ask -

Is the WHOLE 50th year SET APART or just the day portion of the year?

Are we to treat the whole year much the same as the Sabbath year “ Do not sow, nor reap what grows of its own”

I have heard it said that Elohim only SET APART the daylight hours of the sabbath, yet I have not seen one scripture to suggest that this is the case.

Rather it says:

Gen 2:3 And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it He rested from all His work which Elohim in creating had made.

He SET APART the 7th day

Compare:

Exo 19:10 And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Go to the people and set them apart today and tomorrow. And they shall wash their garments,
Exo 19:11 and shall be prepared by the third day. For on the third day Yahuah shall come down upon Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people.

Are we to assume that the days they were to be SET APART was only the day light hours? Of course not... But yet:

Exo 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart.
Exo 20:9 “Six days you labour, and shall do all your work,
Exo 20:10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath of Yahuah your Elohim. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
Exo 20:11 “For in six days Yahuah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore Yahuah blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart.

We assume SETTING APART the 7th day is only the day light hours???

No Sabbath Night

I have also heard it said “Scripture never mentions Sabbath night” This is true, but common sense and logic dictates there is. Just as common sense and logic dictates that the days they were SET APART included the night without saying “night”...

Gen 1:5 And Elohim called the light ‘day’ and the darkness He called ‘night.’ And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the first day.

No mention of night yet we know night is going to be part of the complete circuit of the day.

I know that the Day of Atonements is a special day and the Sabbath begins on the 9th day in the evening, yet there is no doubt that this particular Sabbath includes the night. So there is such thing as "Sabbath night" without night being directly mentioned...

Lev 23:27 “On the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be a set-apart gathering for you. And you shall afflict your beings, and shall bring an offering made by fire to Yahuah.
Lev 23:28 “And you do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before Yahuah your Elohim.
Lev 23:29 “For any being who is not afflicted on that same day, he shall be cut off from his people.
Lev 23:30 “And any being who does any work on that same day, that being I shall destroy from the midst of his people.
Lev 23:31 “You do no work – a law forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Lev 23:32 ‘It is a Sabbath of rest to you, and you shall afflict your beings. On the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you observe your Sabbath.”

One last thought.

Does the year have a day and night? Does the land rest the whole year or just the first half?

This is shared from a morning to morning persuasion. And if these reasons didn't exist we would probably agree with the 12 hour Sabbath understanding.

Shalom.
